Richard Baxter, who was called "the greatest of the Puritans", wrote this book for all involved in pastoral ministry. This is an outstanding work, and it should be read by every novice minister who is preparing to work with the people under his care, and the sections devoted to the practice of ministry should be refreshed in memory at least once every three or four years. Speaking of a "reformed pastor," Baxter does not mean a pastor who advocates Calvinism, but one whose service to his people as a preacher, teacher, teacher of catechism, and role model shows that he is regenerated and transformed.
