Коли ж приходить Різдво? Тоді, коли випадає сніг, щипає мороз? Коли готовий святковий стіл? Коли око милують різнобарвні різдвяні вогники? Коли всі люди здорові та щасливі й обдаровують одне одного дорогими подарунками? Мабуть, що ні.
Різдво приходить тоді, коли ми вчимося від маленького Ісуса любові та співчуття до ближнього. Коли вміємо побачити скрутне становище вбогої людини і простягаємо руку допомоги. Диво різдвяної ночі творять не величні слова і подарунки, а тихий дитячий шепіт вдячності і віра в те, що добро завжди перемагатиме зло. Теплі різдвяні історії відомої американської письменниці Луїзи Мей Олкот стануть чудовим доповненням до різдвяних свят для дітей та дорослих.

Луїза Мей Олкот — американська письменниця, поетеса та громадська діячка, найбільш відома як авторка всесвітньо улюбленого роману «Маленькі жінки» (Little Women, 1868), що став класикою світової літератури.
Вона народилася в містечку Ґермантон, штат Пенсильванія, у родині вчителя, філософа й реформатора Еймоса Бронсона Олкотта та Абіґейл Мей Олкотт. Родина належала до кола американських трансценденталістів — інтелектуалів, які пропагували духовний розвиток, самопізнання й соціальні реформи. Друзі сім’ї — Натанаель Готорн, Ральф Волдо Емерсон і Генрі Девід Торо — значно вплинули на світогляд майбутньої письменниці.
Луїза почала писати ще в юності, щоб допомогти родині фінансово. Окрім літературної діяльності, Олкотт брала участь у боротьбі за скасування рабства, підтримувала права жінок і була однією з перших жінок, які зареєструвалися для голосування в Массачусетсі.
Вона померла у Бостоні у віці 55 років, залишивши по собі значну літературну спадщину — романи, оповідання, вірші й дитячі книжки, серед яких і різдвяні історії, зокрема «Коли приходить Різдво», сповнені теплоти, родинних цінностей і віри в добро.
